Clare To Miss McGrath Cup Once More In 2015

Clare will stay away from football’s McGrath Cup once more in 2015.

The Banner, along with Waterford, Limerick and Tipperary, boycotted the season opening competition at the beginning of this year as part of their opposition to the seeded Munster Championship.

That competition was changed in the summer, and now the other three counties have returned to the McGrath Cup fold.

However, the draw was made last night and Colm Collins' side were absent.

Clare's hurlers, meanwhile, have been given a bye into the Quarter-Final of their pre-season competition, the Waterford Crystal Cup.

Davy Fitzgerald's men will likely face a tough opener against beaten All-Ireland finalists Tipperary, presuming they overcome Mary I in their first match.

The Banner's opening game of the year will be on the weekend of January 18th

Separately in football, Intel Transaero have been beaten in their Munster Junior Inter-Firms Semi-Final.

Despite a late fight back, they were pipped by Cork Teachers 0-11 to 1-7 in Newtownshandrum last night.
