Banner’s Hurlers Warned they Need to Hit the Ground Running this Weekend

A member of Davy Fitzgeralds backroom team says it's crucial the Banner hit the ground running when they open their League campaign on Sunday.

Clare's Allianz National League begins with a clash against Galway in Salthill, who will be without star forward Joe Canning due to a hand injury.

Clare's last league outing was the semi final loss to Tipperary, while Clare and Galway shared the spoils when they met in Ennis last year.

Selector Louis Mulqueen says Clare cannot afford a slow start to 2015.

Throw in at Pearse Stadium Salthill on Sunday is at 2pm, full live commentary here on Clare FM in association with Matt Waters Clare fruit and Veg market and Donie O Keefe Champion meats Turnpike road, Ennis.

Staying with the Allianz League and Paul Murphy has been handed the full back position by Kilkenny manager Brian Cody for tomorrows Allianz league opener with Cork in Pairc Ui Rinn.

The Cats are looking for a new number 3 following the retirement of JJ Delaney.

Man of the match from the all Ireland final replay Kieran Joyce starts at centre back while Conor Fogarty and Lester Ryan are the midfield pairing.

Walter Walsh is centre forward.

Cork manager Jimmy Barry Murphy has included Captain and goalkeeper Anthony Nash while Aidan Walsh joins Mark Ellis and Cormac Murphy in the half-back line.

Conor Lehane and Alan Cadogan both line-out among the forwards after UCC's early exit from the Fitzgibbon Cup.

Meanwhile as expected Kilmallock's Gavin O'Mahony has been named in a strong looking Limerick side to face Waterford at the Gaelic grounds tomorrow.

O'Mahony starts at centre forward with minor star from the last two years Cian Lynch beside him on the wing.

Tomás Waters will captain the Wexford hurlers for their Division 1B opener against Antrim.

Waters has been named at full-back after almost two years out of the team through injury.

Former Wexford footballer Daithi Waters will make his League debut for the county's hurlers after being named at midfield while Lee Chin lines-out at centre-back.
