Late call to be made as Fitzgerald leaves center forward position vacant ahead of Galway clash

Clare boss Davy Fitzgerald has left one position vacant ahead of the Banners League opener against Galway.

In a text to the Clare hurling supporters club, the center forward position was marked as AN Other, with a decision on who will fill the slot to be made close to throw in.

Of those who have been handed starting positions, joint captains Cian Dillon and Pat Donnellan line out at full back and wing forward respectively.

Colin Ryan and Brendan Bugler are the midfield pairing, with Conor Cleary getting a first league start at wing back.

Colm Galvin lines out at wing forward, with John Conlon, Shane O'Donnell and David Reidy in the full forward line.

There's also a return for Clonlara's Domhnall O'Donovan at corner back.

Fitzgerald also has a number of players unavailable through injury, with Tony Kelly, Darach Honan and David McInerney among those.

Meanwhile, 

Clare hurling selector Louis Mulqueen says he's looking forward to getting back to competitive action with the Banner.

Waterford Crystal aside, it's the Banners first competitive game since last years championship exit against Wexford in July, while Clare's last win came in the League quarter final in March of 2014.

Mulqueen says that's something they are looking to put right
