A late point from John Conlon looked to have been enough to win the game for Clare, but two late points from placed balls by Jason Flynn gave victory to the Tribesmen.

It was Conlon who got the opening goal of the game after 29 mins when he doubled on a Colin Ryan free to send the ball to the back of the net, but Galway responded through Cathal Mannion to lead 1-9 to 1-8 at half time.

Four quickfire points at the beginning of the second period saw Clare lead by 1-12 to 1-9, but Galway refused to wilt and kept in touch.

The Banner maintained the three point lead with 15 minutes to go, but a goal from Joseph Cooney levelled matters.

The sides continued to exchange points, before Flynns two late strikes stole the victory for Galway.
