The home side got off to a dream start in Cusack Park, hitting the first 7 points inside the opening 25 minutes.

Westmeath rallied to hit three in a row before Clare did the same to lead 0-10 to 0-3 at the break.

David Tubridy hit the fourth of his five points after the restart, with Enda Couglans point sandwiched between three scores from Westmeath to leave the Banner 0-12 to 0-6 ahead with 53 minutes on the clock.

Another Tubridy effort was quickly followed by one from Gordon Kelly and Clare looked out of sight.

The away side struck three in a row again, but an Eoin Cleary free and Jamie Malones second goal of the league campaign put the result beyond doubt.

Clare outscored Westmeath 0-3 to 0-1 in the closing five minutes to seal the 11 point win.

Elsewhere in Division Three, Kildare battled past Limerick 1-11 to 1-10, two early goals proved crucial as Tipperary overcame Offaly by 2-11 to 0-12, while Longford beat Sligo.

It means Kildare stay top with 8 points from 4 games, with Clare and Tipperary on 6 points. Clare are ahead of Tipperary on scoring difference.

Westmeath and Limerick stay bottom with just one point each.
