An elderly man has died after the ambulance taking him to hospital broke down on the M18 motorway.
Reports say the man in question was in his 70s and seriously ill, and that paramedics were called to the Ennis area assist him at around 6:20 yesterday morning.

He was being transported to University Hospital Limerick when the ambulance broke down near Shannon.
This occurred at around 7:45.
As a paramedic worked to resuscitate the man, another ambulance was immediately dispatched to the scene, arriving at 8 o'clock, and the man was in hospital at 8:18.
He later passed away, though it's not known whether this occurred in the ambulance or the hospital, or whether his chances of survival were affected by the ambulance breakdown.
