The HSE insists a scaling back of day surgeries at Ennis General is for this week only.
Difficulties in securing cover staff for holiday leave mean day surgeries will only be carried out on two half-days this week, though in previous years the theatre would have closed for the full week.

Full service will resume next Monday, while the number of day surgery procudures in Ennis has increased by 37% between 2012 and 2014.
Clare TD Michael McNamara thinks the county hospital can be used to an even greater extent.
