Kilkee Man To Bring Fresh Legal Challenge Against Marriage Referendum

A Kilkee man is to bring a fresh legal challenge against the same-sex marriage referendum today.

Electrician Gerry Walshe of Lisdeen Road is to make a new application before the duty judge at today's vacation sitting of the High Court to bring proceedings against the state by way of judicial review.

Last week, the Supreme Court refused to permit separate actions brought by Mr. Walshe and by another man who had sought to appeal the rejection of their challenges to the Yes result of the referendum.

The Irish Times reports that the latest action relates to the decision by the state to issue and sign the final referendum certificate in August while a challenge against the result was still in being.

The bill allowing same sex couples to legally marry is due to pass through the Dáil and Seanad in the coming weeks.
