Marriage Equality Bill To Be Introduced Into Dáil Today

The Marriage Equality Bill will be introduced to the Dáil today, paving the way for the first same-sex marriages in Ireland to take place by November.

The landmark legislation makes Ireland offically the first country in the world to bring in same-sex marriage by popular vote.

It follows the historic referendum result in May, when over 1.2 million people voted in favour of civil marriage between people without distinction as to their sex.

Gráinne Healy, Chairwoman of Marriage Equality, said it's an exiting day for everyone who voted Yes.
