Efforts To Be Made To Improve Road Signage For Miltown Malbay

A Clare County Councillor says the local authority will endeavor to improve signage for Miltown Malbay following the closure of Clonbony Bridge.

Repair works are due to get underway on Wednesday following the closure of the bridge due to storm damage earlier this month.

Transport Infrastructure Ireland says nothing can be done to speed up repair works at Clonbony Bridge.

Contractors have been appointed to carry out repairs on the structure which suffered extreme damage during flooding earlier this month, leading to the closure of the bridge on the N67.

Work which will begin on Wednesday this week will take four weeks to complete and a contract is due to be signed today.

Spokesperson for TII, Sean O’Neill says measures had to be taken to ensure that a permanent solution is in place.

Binesses say the closure of Clonbony Bridge has led to the loss of a number of jobs and up to 80 per cent of custom.

They've called for improved signage to divert traffic on the N67 into the town of Miltown Malbay in an effort to tackle the problem.

Fianna Fail Spanish Point Councillor Michael Hillary says efforts have already been made to improve signage but he believes more work needs to be done.
