Sinn Fein will be introduce a bill in the Dáil tomorrow calling for the housing and homeless to be addressed with immediate effect.

The party's election candidate here in Clare, Noeleen Moran says that homeless people are being denied shelter due to the lack of a "wet hostel" in the county and she believes the problem is getting steadily worse.

The North Clare woman says that the Government has made it easier for banks to evict people in mortgage arrears resulting in more homelessness and housing overcrowding.

Noeleen says emergency legislation needs to be put in place.

It comes as the Simon Community is holding a forum today aimed at finding solutions to the homeless crisis.

Latest figures put the number of people living in emergency accommodation aross the country at nearly 5 thousand, including more than a thousand children.

Simon Spokesperson Niamh Randall says these people are in need of urgent help.
