42% Increase In Trolley Numbers At Region’s Main Hospital

There's been a 42 per cent increase in the number of people waiting on trolleys at the region's main hospital in the past year.

Figures from the INMO show 784 people were waiting for beds at University Hospital Limerick over the twelve month period from September 2014, up from 551 the previous year.

It comes as nurses from Emergency Departments around the country gather for a national meeting today where Health Minister Leo Varadkar will hear concerns about overcrowding.

As the winter season approaches, doctors have warned they expect overcrowding to reach its worst ever level this year and General Secretary of the INMO Liam Doran says his members' patience is wearing thin.
