New CSO figures show crime rates are lower in Clare than in most other parts of the country.
However, Gardaí here have been more likely to catch out drivers.
These new CSO statistics pertain to 2013 and outline recorded crime levels throughout Ireland.
In Clare, there were 35 sexual offences, 375 burglaries and 9 robbery or hijacking offences.
On a like-for-like basis, when population is taken into account, these categories were all below the average for both the state and for the West of the country.
The number of thefts – just under 1,000 – and fraud offences was also lower, though the number of drugs offences recorded were in line with the national average.
There were also 8,500 motoring offences that year, giving Clare one of the highest rates in the country for this type of crime.
