However Ennis and East Clare recorded a drop Clare FM's.

The number of people signing on in Clare now stands at 7,395 – a rise of 63 in November – but a fall of over 800 on the same time last year.

The unemployment indicator is continuing to show an improvement in Ennis where 4,003 people are claiming some form of unemployment benefit, the fifth consecutive month where a fall has been recorded.

Ennis Area Independent Councillor Ann Norton is welcoming the fall but she's questioned whether the figures represent reality.

It's a similar story in East Clare, where 19 people left the dole queues in the month of November.

But in West Clare, 44 people joined the dole queues last month and a rise of 77 was recorded in the North of the county.

Ennistymon Fine Gael Senator Martin Conway has described the rise as both surprising and disappointing.
