The ESB has confirmed its to increase the release of water from the Parteen Weir from 315 cubic meters per second to 375 today.

Clare County Council says this almost certainly will lead to further flooding of land, roads and potentially property along the banks of the Lower River Shannon, and especially in the Springfield area of Clonlara in southeast Clare.

Geraldine Quinlivan is living in Springfield and says her home is one of at least ten which are now at risk.

Council Area staff have been carrying out sandbagging operations overnight and again this morning and the local authority is continuing to liaise with the ESB, An Garda Síochána and local property owners in the affected areas.

For its part, the ESB says the release of water is likely to increase even more over the coming days.

Corporate Communications Manager Bernadine Maloney insists the measures are unavoidable.

Meanwhile, the government is being urged to consider special supports for famrers who have seen their lands flooded in Storm Desmond.

Thousands of acres of land remains submerged following Saturday's bad weather, and for many it will be months until the land recovers.

Social Welfare Officials are going door to door in areas worst affected by the weekend's flooding across the country, to explain how households can claim aid relief while Cabinet Ministers are discussing relief funding.

Head of the ICMSA in Clare Martin McMahon says funding for farmers is badly needed.

Meanwhile, the National Emergency Co-Ordination Group is warning it'll be Friday or Saturday before the flooding threat is over.

The group met this morning, and says while there's been a drop in the points of concern from 22 to 15, in some areas, especially along the River Shannon, the worst could be yet to come.

Met Eireann says there will be a further 10-15 millimetres of rain today and a further 20 millimetres tonight, but there's no evidence of any further storms.
