Plans outlined for new facilities at Clare beaches

Plans for the provision of new toilet and changing facilities at three of the counties busiest beaches are in their early stages.

Clare County Council is seeking consultants to design the improved amenities at Lahinch, Spanish Point and Kilkee with current services there being described as inadequate.

The work, which is expected to cost in the region of 900,000 euro and is contained in the council's budget plan for next year, is expected to progress to the planning stage in 2016.

Lahinch Councillor Bill Slattery is welcoming the announcement but is raising questions over whether funding granted will cover the cost of all three locations:
