Planned Strike Action By Nurses Called Off

Planned strike action at 7 Emergency Departments this morning has been called off, after the INMO and the HSE agreed to proposals including cash bursaries to attract new nurses.

Among the proposals put forward at the Workplace Relations Commission are recruitment initiatives – including a 15-hundred euro educational bursary for nurses who stay in the job for 12 months.

The INMO says strike action has been deferred pending the outcome of a ballot of nurses on the proposals put forward last night, but plans remain for work stoppages in January.

Industry Correspondent with the Irish Times Martin Wall says the idea of extra annual leave had been mooted, but it's not clear if that is included in the proposals.
