The government is being urged to step forward and provide funding to deal with an impending shortage in the number of available graves here.
The call comes as Clare County Council is also urged to consider establishing a designated fund to assist voluntary groups in planning burial ground extensions.

Currently, an 8,000 euro fund is available for this , and it is paid to groups who have completed a large part of the process, including the purchase of the site in question and full planning approval.
However, West Clare Fine Gael Councillor Gabriel Keating says this process is simply too expensive for many.
