The government is being warned that it will need to agree a new contract with GPs before it can expand free general practice to children under the age of 12.
The scheme, which will benefit around 200,000 children, was announced during the budget and also included in the HSE's Service Plan, which was published this week.

However, this is subject to agreement with GPs, and the Irish Medical Organisation is standing firm in its stance that other issues need to be addressed too.
