The Limerick-born presenter had a 50-year career on television and radio.

His career began with RTE, but he was best known for his work with the BBC.

He presented a number of hit TV shows including Wogan and Blankety Blank.

His long-running breakfast show on BBC Radio 2 was consistently among Britain's top rated programmes.

He was also the voice of the BBC's Eurovision coverage and had been involved with the Children in Need fundraiser since it began.

British Prime Minister David Cameron has led tributes, describing Terry as someone millions came to feel was their own special friend.
