Police in New Zealand say four officers have been shot during a siege near the remote Island town of Kawerau.
It's understood the incident happened before 11am local time at a rural property when police say shots were heard by officers who were in the area – on an operation – involving an aircraft.
The area was cordoned off and the Armed Offenders Squad was deployed.
Four of its officers were shot – Police say two are in stable condition, a third is in a serious condition in hospital.
A fourth officer also received a gunshot in a separate incident at the scene. He is currently receiving medical treatment.
The area remains sealed off and a no-fly zone is in place.
