The Comhaltas Ard Comairle is meeting this afternoon, following which a vote will be taken on who will host the 2017 Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann.

The counting of votes will begin soon after and the Chairman of both contenders will be informed on who has been successful in their bid.

There are two towns in the running for the festival in 2017; Ennis and Drogheda and organisers here are hoping the world's largest traditional music festival will return to the county town for the second year running.

Over 400,000 people are expected to descend on the county town for this year's festival which takes place over ten days in August, providing a massive boost to the local economy.

Sligo, Tipperary, Kerry, Donegal and Cavan are just some of the counties which have hosted the event on two or more consecutive years but it's not unheard of for the event to held just once.

An annoucement on who has won the bid for 2017 is expected before six o'clock this evening.
