40% of domestic waste systems examined by Clare County Council last year failed their inspections.
New figures reveal the Local Authority's Environment section carried out 49 inspections across Co. Clare last year and the failure rate is below the national average of around 50%.

Many households who do not pass inspections are entitled to financial assistance from the government to bring their systems up to standard.
Whitegate Fine Gael Councillor Pat Burke says the monitoring of domestic waste is important to ensure Clare's environment remains clean.
