Meanwhile, passenger numbers have taken off at Shannon Airport with more people travelling abroad than this time last year. The Easter Bank Holiday weekend is traditionally one of the busiest in the year with people taking to the roads and the skies to visit family and friends at home and abroad.

Shannon Airport is expecting a bumper weekend with passenger numbers up 11% this month so far, compared to the same time last year.

The Airport's Operations Director is welcoming the growth, saying the boost is partly to do with St Patrick's Day and Easter falling so close together this year.

But Niall Moloney says the addition of new routes from Shannon has also had a positive impact:

Meanwhile, Gardaí will be out in force on our roads this Easter Bank Holiday weekend.

Additional resources are being deployed across the county targeting people who are driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding, driving carelessly or failing to wear their seatbelt.

This weekend in particular, there'll be a strong emhasis on padestrian and cyclist safety with high visability jackets available from Garda Stations across Clare, while the Clare Garda Traffic Corps will also have a supply in patrol cars.

Sergeant Darragh Molloy is urging people to take extra care when heading out and about
