Clare TD Says Two Main Parties Will Have To Talk

Clare's independent TD claims the two larger parties have no other option but to meet over the coming days.

Independents and the Greens are meeting with Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil again today as the threat of another election now looms.

The country is now 33 days without a Government and politicians look no closer to forming an alliance.

As Fine Gael and Fianna Fail meet separately with Independents today, the threat now looms of another election, with Kerry Independent Micheal Healy Rae claiming it could be called on May 20th.

Kilmihil TD, Dr Michael Harty says negotiations are in checkmate at the moment with neither Fianna Fail or Fine Gael willing to support eachother in Government.

He believes there will have to be some movement within the two larger parties over the coming days if another election is to be avoided.

Last night the Taoiseach effectively told a meeting with independents and smaller groups that he wouldn't talk to Fianna Fáil until he had a Programme to show them.

Transport Minister Paschal Donhoe says the party wants to finish current talks before they reach out to Fianna Fáil.

The ongoing uncertainty has been met with anger by some organisations who claim its having a negative impact on the country.

As the INTO's annual conference continues, it's Clare-based former President, Sean McMahon has described the lack of government as "frustrating in the extreme".

Talks continue, with just 7 days left until the Dáil reconvenes to vote for a Taoiseach.
