Waterford Ambulance Drivers To Strike

Ambulance staff in Waterford are taking industrial action tomorrow, accusing the HSE of failing to address their concerns.

It comes after the National Emergency Operations Centre in Tallaght was opened last summer to deal with all calls to the ambulance service.

The South East was fully integrated into the operations in September.

But UNITE, which represents the Waterford ambulance personnel, says a number of issues have arisen, including staff being instructed to work beyond their finishing times and go without meal breaks for 6 to 8 hours.

The union also says emergency crews have been assigned non-emergency work leaving little, or no emergency cover within the city and county environs.

The staff stress that tomorrow's action won't affect emergencies or patient care.
