Plans to deal with ongoing traffic problems at Blake's Corner involve the construction of a new bridge 80 metres upstream from the existing Ennistymon Bridge on the N67.

It would initially be used for Lahinch-bound traffic, while traffic coming from the seaside village will continue to use the existing bridge.

The project involves the demolition of a number of homes and a business to facilitate the construction of the bridge, a move which has been met with anger by some of those affected.

Clare County Council is now consulting An Bord Pleanála for an opinion on whether the process should proceed directly to the planning authority as strategic infrastructure.

An Bord Pleanála is due to give its decision on the matter on July 25th.
