Government Formation Talks To Resume This Afternoon

Talks between Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil on forming a minority Government are to resume this afternoon.

It comes as Enda Kenny and Michael have held what they've described as a "cordial and professional" call.

Talks between the two parties are to resume today as efforts continue to form a minority Government led by Fine Gael.

Fianna Fail have agreed to 'facilitate a minority government' but they say they won't participate in it.

Clare TD Timmy Dooley says his party will only support policies that are in line with its own manifesto and that the party will vehemently oppose anything that isn't in the best interest of the public.

One of the major points of contention is likely to be Irish Water and charges but Deputy Dooley believes it's not the most important issue.

Fine Gael's Paschal Donohoe says the party's backing retaining the utility.

This afternoon a "cordial and professional" call has been held between Mícheál Martin and Enda Kenny and it's hoped that talks over the coming days will bring a conclusion to the ongoing stalemate.
