Concern Over Irish Intel Jobs

There are concerns for the future of around 200 Intel jobs in Shannon, as the tech giant has announces plans to cut 12 thousand from it's global workforce over the next year.

The company employs a total of 5,000 people in Ireland – the vast majority at it's plant in Leixlip Co. Kildare – but also runs a research facility at East Park in Shannon, where it's operated since the year 2000.

The reminder of the Irish jobs are based in Cork – it remains to be seen what impact, if any, the announcement will have on the company's Irish workforce.

The US chipmaker says it wants to reduce dependence on the slumping personal computer market however Aidan Donnelly of Davy says it's likely the cuts will be mainly US based.
