Works Given Go-Ahead on Ennis-Miltown Malbay Road

Works which will lead to the temporary closure of part of the Ennis-Miltown Malbay Road are to begin next month.

Clare County Council has approved the road closure, which will begin on May 3rd and last for nearly eight weeks.

These works are to allow for the laying of a power cable associated with the Slieve Callan windfarm.

It had been the subject of criticism in Kilmaley in particular, where local businessman Laurence O'Brien claimed the original plans would threaten the viability of his shops.

The Council also received over 500 public submissions on the works.

The local authority has now given the go ahead to the road closure between The Hand Cross and Kinturk Junction, to begin on Tuesday May 3rd.

The road will be open for public use when works aren't taking place – i.e. from Saturday afternoons until Monday mornings, and overnight from 8pm during the week.

Local access will be maintained, emergency services have been informed, and access for buses, including school runs, will also be facilitated.

The works are scheduled to be completed by June 10th, while any additional temporary road closures associated with the project will require a new licence application.
