A man has been found not guilty by reason of insanity of murdering his brother near the Cliffs of Moher.
41 year old Declan O'Cualain, with an address at An Caoran Beag, An Ceathrú Rua, Galway had been charged with murdering Adrian Folan at Lislorkin North, Liscannor on July 4, 2014.
He admitted to killing his brother while they were parked up at the Cliffs of Moher, but had pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.
The Central Criminal Court heard evidence that the accused had a history of mental health issues and that he had altered his approach to his medication in the lead-up to the killing.
The jury returned their verdict after just 21 minutes of deliberations and Mr. O'Cualain was committed to the Central Mental Hospital ahead of another court hearing next month.
