Calls are being made for the removal of the 100% commercial rates refund for landlords of vacant properties in Ennis to encourage them to maintain their properties to a high standard.
The issue is due to be discussed at the Ennis Municipal District Meeting this afternoon and follows ongoing concern over the dereliction and poor condition of business premises in the Parnell Street area.

Councillor Johnny Flynn believes additional measures need to be taken in order to make vacant premises in the county town more attractive to potential investors.
The Fine Gael Councillor insists the rebate is counter-productive for both struggling businesses and the council.
