Speculation is rife as to whether one of Clare's two Fine Gael TDs will be appointed a Minister of State over the coming days.

Its been over two decades since the party appointed a Junior ministry in the county.

Meanwhile, with the programme for Government set to be published, it's hoped that the new rural affairs ministry will have a positive impact here.

Members of the newly appointed Cabinet have taken to their offices for the first time today but again there was no minister from Clare following Enda Kenny's announcement on Friday.

And as speculation is mounting as to who will be given a Junior Ministry over the coming days, two of the county's Oireachtas representatives have added their voice to calls for a Clare appointment.

Ennistymon Senator Martin Conway says its about time the county received a Junior Minsitry, while Joe Carey believes it should be him.

Meanwhile, ahead of the release of the new programme for Government, the appointment of a new Senior Minster for rural affairs has received a broad welcome locally.

The IFA's Clare county Chairman, Willie Hanrahan says a number of measures announced by the new government will have a huge impact locally.

Inagh-based CEO of Muintire na Tíre, Neil Garvey says he's confident that the new Ministry will make a difference.

But at the dawn of this so-called new era of poltics, it remains to be seen as to whether Clare will be any better off over the term of this Government.
