Irish Rail And OPW Urged To Come To Arrangement On Flood Protection Works In Newmarket On Fergus

Irish Rail and the Office of Public Works are being called on to come to an arrangement on flood protection works in the Newmarket on Fergus area.

A final track inspection is being carried out on the Ennis-Limerick rail line this afternoon, in the hope of operating the first service in five months this evening.

Irish Rail says a number of schemes have been proposed to alleviate future flooding, including raising the line over a significant distance, but the company says funding isn't currently available for these works.

Local Fianna Fail Councillor Pat McMahon says action needs to be taken one way or another to solve the problem.
