It's the first day of filming in Loop Head and already rumours are rife that actors from the iconic film will be descending on the area tonight.

Scouts arrived on Friday to survey the private land where scenes are being shot but last night the majority of the crew descended on the area.

Kilbaha is now a hive of activity and fans of the famous Star Wars franchise are beginning to appear in the area in the hope of catching a glimpse of history in the making.

Cillian Murphy of Loop Head Tourism is there.

Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker, flew into Cork last night where it's believed he was greeted by a convoy of dark jeeps.

Locals in the area says he's now en route to Loop Head but whether that's fact or merely scuttlebutt remains to be seen.

Local people have been telling Clare FM that there's great excitement in the area.

It's stil not known whether any of the scenes shot over the coming three days will actually appear in the film or if they'll end up on the cutting room floor.

But in the meantime, the people of Kilbaha are certainly enjoying their out of galaxy experience.
