Hundreds Walk Out Of UL Emergency Department Because Of Waiting Times

Hundreds of people have walked out of the emergency department at region's main hospital, because they can't face the long waiting times and overcrowded conditions.

New figures from the HSE show that in February last year, 307 people left the ED at University Hospital Limerick before discharge.

In July, 245 walked out and in October the figure was 313.

Councillor PJ Ryan, who is a memeber of the HSE's Regional Health Forum West, has been telling me that people are frustrated by having to wait for many hours to be seen by a doctor.

But the Sixmilebridge Councillor believes an alternative system of care is needed.
