It was one of two incidents in Clare last night which required assistance from the Irish Coast Guard.

Emergency services were alerted around nine o'clock last night after a member of a group out climbing near Fanore got into difficulty.

The Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard was initially dispatched, while the Shannon-based search and rescue helicopter was later called to the scene.

It's understood one person was injured following a fall and was airlifted to University Hospital Galway for treatment.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, the Killaloe unit of the Coast Guard assisted crew of a cruise boat that ran aground on Lough Derg.

Two people on board a 30-foot cruiser when probelems arose, shortly before 6 o'clock.

Killaloe Coast Guard located the boat, towed it to deeper water and later on to Killaloe.

The occupants of the boat were unharmed in the incident and there was no damage to the boat.

Both incidents were coordinated by staff at the Irish Coast Guard marine rescue sub station on Valentia Island in Kerry.
