Thomas Fox, who’s 29 and due to become a father for the first time in a few weeks, is accused of having a Makarov 9mm handgun in his possession on May 23rd – the day before Gareth Hutch was killed.

He’s alleged to have had it at the Avondale House complex in Dublin’s north inner city where Mr. Hutch lived and where he was shot while getting into his car the following morning.

A lengthy bail application on behalf of Mr. Fox was heard before Judge Anthony Halpin this afternoon. Gardai objected on a number of grounds including the nature and seriousness of the charge.

Chief Superintendent Pat Leahy also said he anticipated a further more serious charge to be brought.

Judge Halpin ultimately refused bail and remanded him in custody for a week.

He’s the second person to be charged in connection with the investigation.

Yesterday, a 44-year-old woman appeared in court charged with withholding information.
