Ex-Clare TD Hits Out At Harty Over Workers Right Vote

Clare's former Labour TD is hitting out at deputies, including Independent Michael Harty, for voting against the party's motion on workers rights.

The new government suffered its first Dail defeat last night, on a proposal calling for public bodies to pay the living wage, giving freelance workers collective bargaining rights, and a clampdown on zero-hours contracts.

A government counter-motion – honouring the Lansdowne Road agreement and seeking a Public Service Pay Commission – was voted down by 78 votes to 58.

Michael McNamara says he's disappointed that Dr. Harty, who has campaigned for increased supports for GPs, would oppose improvements for lower paid workers.
