Representatives from Ennis are to meet with the family of Muhammad Ali when they attend his funeral later this week.
Days after the death of the iconic boxer, tributes were paid to Ali last evening by Councillors representing the town where he became the first honorary freeman in 2009.
An email, sent by a close friend around the time of the visit, was read to Councillors and stated that those who knew Muhammad for decades had "never seen him happier or more humbled" by the welcome he received in his ancestral home on that day.
Ennis will be represented at Ali's funeral this Friday by Acting Council CEO Ger Dollard, and by outgoing Ennis Mayor Pat Daly.
