Shane Curry is charged with assault causing harm to the thirtenne year old boy at John Paul Estate in Kilrush last Saturday and possessing a knife during the course of the alleged assault.

The 21-year-old is also charged with threatening to burn down the house of a Kilrush woman at Crawford Street and having a knife when trespassing into the woman's property on the same date.

At Ennis District Court, Judge Patrick Durcan refused a bail application for Mr Curry based on the seriousness of the alleged offences, the likely sentence to be imposed if convicted and the strength of evidence in the case.

The court was told that Gardai had 'crystal clear' CCTV evidence in relation to the case and the evidence of seven independent witnesses.

Judge Durcan remanded Mr Curry in custody to re-appear before the court next month.
