Limerick Institute of Technology is exploring the possibility of establishing an Ennis-based campus.
It comes as the Institute announces it is to offer its first ever CAO degree course in Clare.

The BA in Applied Social Work will get under way in the county town in September and will be available through the CAO from 2017.
Interim President of LIT Terry Twomey says discussions have already taken place Clare County Council and the local Education and Training Board in the hopes of offering more courses in Ennis.
However, Mr. Twomey admits these discussion are still at an early stage.
