A transatlantic flight has diverted to Shannon Airport after a passenger was reported to have fallen ill.
The United Airlines flight was travelling from Athens to Newark when it turned around over the North Atlantic.
United Airlines flight UA-2078 was about three hours into its journey from Athens in Greece to Newark in New Jersey when crew opted to turn around over the North Atlantic and divert to Shannon Airport.
The Boeing 767-300 jet landed at te Mid-west Airport at 6.17 yesterday evening and was met by ambulance service paramedics at the terminal.
The patient was reported to be conscious prior to landing and was treated at the airport before being removed by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick for further treatment.
The flight has since been cancelled, due to a crew hours issue, but is due to resume its journey this morning.
