It's claimed that it should be compulsory for Clare landowners to cut their hedges once a year.
Bodyke Councillor Joe Cooney says if people fail to maintain roadside hedges, Clare County Council should carry out the work instead and send the bill to the landowner.
The council say it's already compulsory that landowners maintain and manage their roadside, but to require that hedgecutting be carried out once a year to all roadside hedges may be over-zealous.
Councillor Cooney insists while most people are responsible in carrying out the work, more needs to be done to compel those who don't.
Councillor Cooney says greater efforts should be made to make landowners aware of the grants available for hedgecutting.
