Councillors are to push for improved pay and secretarial supports.
Reports say Minister for Local Government Simon Coveney is considering a 1,000 euro pay hike for local representatives, in a move that is being interprested by some as a boost to his Fine Gael leadership prospects.

The pay increase would likely be welcomed by Councillors, whose representative body now has a new President.
Ennis Fianna Fáil Councillor Pat Daly has taken the position from fellow Clare Councillor John Crowe, and insists that Councillors deserve more.
