Economist Says Budget Measures May Drive Up House Prices In Clare And Elsewhere

A leading economist says the onus is on the Government to ensure that any decisions made in the upcoming budget don't impact negatively on first time buyers.

It comes as new figures from Daft.ie show house prices in Clare have risen by 6% over the past year, with the average price of a home in the county now at 156,000 euro.

It's believed that first time buyers will be incentivised to buy new homes in next Tuesday's budget, with plans expected to include a ten thousand euro tax break.

But author of the Daft.ie Report, Economist Ronan Lyons says stimulating demand may drive prices up even further.
