An internationally-renowned academic has been appointed as the new President of the University of Limerick.
Professor Desmond Fitzgerald, who currently serves as a Vice President at UCD, will replace Don Barry when he takes up the position in May.

Professor Fitzgerald is a medical graduate of UCD, who has also held senior leadership roles in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
