Travel time between Ennis and Galway will be significantly reduced within the next eighteen months, when the motorway from Gort to Tuam is scheduled to be open for traffic.
In reponse to a written question from Clare TD Joe Carey, Transport Minister Shane Ross has confirmed that, under the terms of the public/private partnership contract, the section of the M17/M18 scheme is due to be completed by March 2018.

It's hoped the completion of the project will improve transport infrastructure along the Western corridor and road safety for thousands of motorists.
