Tánaiste and Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald says she'll consider such a move.

Appearing before the oireachtas justice committee the commissioner said whistleblowers will always be listened to and supported.

But she repeatedly refused to comment on whistleblower allegations, saying she legally can't.

Noirin O'Sullivan says she will co-operate with the legal review of the recent disclosures.

She called for a single entity to deal with all whistblowing in an Gardaí – the Tánaiste's responded.

Asked about her predecessor Martin Callinan's description of some whistleblowers as disgusting – Noirin O'Sullivan said she wrote to him and advised him to withdraw the remarks.

Independent TD Mick Wallace raised promotions within the Gardaí.

The Commissioner says there's no such thing as her pointing and anointing anyone for promotion.
