Shannon's Parish Priest says new Vatican rules on cremation are designed to ensure that the remains of people who have passed away are treated with respect.
The guidelines advise that the ashes of the dead should not be scattered or kept at home but instead at a cemetery or similar sacred place.

They also ban the use of ashes in mementos like jewellery or other items.
Fr Tom Ryan says the church accepts that many people choose cremation but it's keen to ensure there's respect for the dead.
